Condolences from the management of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group

We are sorry to have to inform you that partner and shipowner Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller has passed away on 16 April 2012.

On behalf of the whole family I wish to express our deep sorrow at the loss of our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller.

My sisters and I have lost a father who never failed neither his family nor his business.

We are grateful that our father lived a long and eventful life. In his never failing wish to do good, together with many and great initiatives, he made a significant mark on our time.

On this day, I am compelled to give thanks to all current and previous employees of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group for the loyalty which has been shown to our father throughout the years.

Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla

A long and active life has come to an end, and Denmark has lost one of the few truly international businessmen that this country has produced. For more than 70 years, shipowner Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller has worked for the company and the country with the purpose of creating additional value and was a leading figure in the working of the company as well as in society.

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller became joint owner of the company ”Firmaet A.P. Møller” in 1940. Since his father’s death in 1965 he was director and chairman of the most important companies in the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller undertook the daily management until 1993 and served as chairman of A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S until 2003.

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller’s role encompassed a wide scope, and as a responsible leader and citizen he was interested in things great and small in society. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller commented on national as well as international political issues when the interests of the company were at stake.

Until the end, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller remained strongly committed on a personal level in the company’s business. Every week you would meet him on his way up the stairs to the sixth floor at the Esplanaden headquarters in Copenhagen, where he followed developments closely. Should issues in the business require an opinion or comment, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller always made his position clear in no uncertain terms accompanied with wit and always based on thorough knowledge of the company and the history.

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller often had a twinkle in his eye, and both I and many employees have experienced a humorous remark when meeting Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller in the corridors of Esplanaden.

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller’s strong presence in the company made a significant difference to us all, both professionally and personally. His presence was a strength to the board, to the business and the employees and will be strongly missed.

It is with sorrow, that we in the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group have received the announcement about the death of Senior Partner Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller.

The respect for the initiative and the wish to be useful was firmly established in the heritage, which Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller received from his father, Mr. A.P. Møller. Inspired by his father, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller placed himself as an example for others and fulfilled the objectives of the founder.

Characteristically, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller led the employees of the Group by example. The values inherited from A.P. Møller; constant care, uprightness, humbleness, our employees and our name were affirmed by Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller, and Mr. Møller’s business principles were communicated to later generations in all parts of the organisation to promote the reputation and development of the company.

Persistence and energy characterised Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller’s endeavours. Foresight, careful preparations and a never failing commitment minimised the risks, often of a considerable size. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller was praised for his business talent and visions and he supported initiatives that changed the direction of the company and impacted societies here and there.

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller made significant decisions on investments, which have put the Group’s activities at the forefront within shipping and energy. Employees all over the world have been motivated for an extra effort by a demanding, but inspiring leader.

In the entire Group, in Denmark as well as in the offices around the world, we will remember Mr. Møller for his great contribution to the company and for the many initiatives, which also have been beneficial to the society. Let us respect his memory.
